PHILADELPHIA -
Cincinnati jumped out to a 24-3 halftime lead en route to a 34-10 win over host Temple Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.  The Owls fell to 3-6 on the season, and 2-4 in the BIG EAST Conference while the Bearcats improved to 7-2 and 3-1 in league play.

The Bearcats, who lead the BIG EAST in scoring (34.2 ppg.), matched their average by utilizing seven explosive (20+ yd) plays in the contest.  UC opened the scoring on its second possession as senior RB George Winn rushed from one yard out to make it 7-0.   Winn, who had five rushes in the six play drive, had set up his score on a 19-yard run to the Temple one yard-line.  The big play on the drive, however, came on a 29-yard pass play from Bearcat senior QB Brendon Kay to junior WR Anthony McClung.  Fifteen yards was tacked on after the play as senior FS Vaughn Carraway was called fora personal foul on his high tackle of McClung.

The Owls answered with a 12-play, 72-yard drive that ended in a 20-yard field goal by senior PK Brandon McManus.  Junior QB Chris Coyer (5-16-1, 56 yds) rushed for 17 yards to kick start the drive and then hit sophomore WR Jalen Fitpatrick on a 19-yard pass play to the Cincinnati 32.  Fitzpatrick, lining up in the wildcat formation for the first of many plays in the game, took a direct snap and rushed nine-yards for a first down at the UC six.  The drive then stalled with McManus extending his Temple record with his 58th career field goal.

It took Cincinnati two plays to answer as Kay hit a senior WR Kenbrell Thompson down the field on a 75-yard touchdown to make 14-3.

Temple took a huge blow on its next possession as senior RB Montel Harris, the team's top offensive threat, left the game with an injury and did not return.

Cincinnati used not one, but two explosive plays on its first drive of the second quarter.  First Kay, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 244 yards while also rushing seven times for 71 yards, connected with Ralph Abernathy for 32 yards.  Then on a third and 12 from the 50 he rushed 40 yards to the Owls 10. Four plays later Winn plunged into the end zone on a fourth and goal from the one for his second score of the game, making it 21-3.

Following a Coyer interception, Kay hit Alex Chisum for 29 yards to the TU 14.  The Owls defense held the Bearcats to a 22-yard Tony Miliano field goal and UC took a 24-3 advantage into the locker room.

Temple coach Steve Addazio inserted junior QB Clinton "Juice" Granger (7-15, 86 yds, 1 TD) to start the second half.  Granger ignited the Owls offense on their first possession, leading the team on an eight-play, 75-yard drive to cut the deficit to 24-10.  Granger connected with freshman WR Roman Deloatch (4 catches, 42 yds) on a big 17-yard first down pass play. Then, following a Matt Brown 15 yard run, he hooked up with redshirt freshman WR John Christopher on a 33-yard catch to the UC 9.  Two plays later he threaded the needle with a pass in the back of the end zone to Cody Booth for the score.

Two possessions later it was another explosive that did in any comeback chances.  Kay hit Chris Moore on a 65-yard touchdown pass just before the end of the third quarter to increase the Bearcat lead to 31-10.

Cincinnati tacked on another Miliano field goal in the fourth quarter, this one from 23-yards out, to account for the final score.

Temple next travels to Army on Nov. 17 for a Noon game.  The game will be televised by CBS College Sports and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
