Volleyball Adds a Fourth Recruit for Next Season

PHILADELPHIA – In addition to the three true freshmen already signed for 2013 by second-year Temple volleyball head coach Bakeer Ganes, there is now a fourth. Mary Claire Tuohy (Glendale, Ariz./Mountain Ridge), a defensive specialist, will join Tyler Davis (Palm Desert, Calif./Xavier College Prep), Caroline Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and Kristen Overton (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) as part of the Owls' incoming class.

Tuohy, who also plays for Revolution Volleyball Academy for coach Amanda Omar, will graduate from Mountain Ridge High School in 2013. She was a second team all-section honoree as a senior and helped lead her team to a third place finish in the state as team captain and MVP.

“We're very happy that we can add Mary Claire to our recruiting class,” said Ganes. “She's an excellent student academically, and a good volleyball player. We're looking forward to getting her in the gym and working with her. She's going to add some depth to our defensive specialist position.”

She attended the Junior Olympics in 2011 and 2012 with Arizona United Volleyball Club, which also represented Arizona in the International High Performance Championship in 2011.

Tuohy is very accomplished in the classroom, and plans to study neuroscience at Temple. She is an AP Scholar with honor and is in the top two percent of her class.
