Women's Tennis Cruises Past Binghamton, 7-0

VESTAL, N.Y. – Temple's women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win at Binghamton on Sunday, February 19, improving to 2-4 on the year. The Owls lost just two sets in the entire match.

The Cherry and White swept doubles, earning and 8-4 win at number 1, an 8-6 decision at the second flight and an 8-1 triumph at number three.

TU increased the lead to 2-0 with a win by default at the sixth flight. From there, Paola Calderon grabbed a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marina Bykovskaya to make it 3-0. Jordan Batey beat Katherine Medianik in straight-sets at number four, 6-2, 6-4, for the 4-0 advantage.

Temple's most challenging matches came at flights one and two. First up was Alicia Doms, who dropped the first set, but ultimately won the second flight, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Yana Mavrina took on Jillian Santos at number one, rebounding from a second set loss to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Rebecca Breland was TU's final competitor, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Miss Edelblum at No. 5.

Temple is back in action Saturday, February 25, when it hosts George Washington in a 5:45 p.m. match at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
