Men's Gymnastics' Seniors Compete in Final Home Meet Sunday Against Air Force and Brockport

2.24.12 | Men's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA - For the second straight weekend, the Temple men's gymnastics team will host a meet in the confines of McGonigle Hall. This time around, the Owls will welcome Air Force and Brockport for a tri-meet set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

Prior to what will be the final regular season home meet for the Owls, Temple will honor its eight seniors for their commitment and dedication to the men's gymnastics program during their four years. Seniors Adam Al-Rokh, Taylor Brana, Evan Burke, Blake Collins, Logan Fiery, Matt Martin, Chris Mooney and Jeff Zack will each be recognized.

The Owls are coming into the tri-meet after cracking the Top 12 in the latest national poll, which has them ranked 10th in the nation with their average meet score of 336.933. In three meets this season, Temple has claimed two first place finishes and one runner-up placement. Last Saturday night here in McGonigle Hall, the Owls defeated Illinois-Chicago and Springfield with a meet-high score of 337.700.

Al-Rokh is averaging 81.362 in all around, putting him No. 10 on the national charts and second in the EIGL conference, while junior Alex Tighe leads the conference and is 11th in the nation with his average earned total of 14.050 on the horizontal bar.

Ranked 11th in the weekly polls, Air Force is competing in the backend of two meets here on the East Coast. On Friday, the Falcons took part in a dual-meet with Army at West Point, N.Y., for their second straight match with No. 15 Army before arriving in Philadelphia for today's meet.

Devin Menefee is currently ranked eighth in the nation on the still rings, with a three-score average of 15.067. As a team, Air Force is ranked within the top 10 in three of the six events. The Falcons are ranked seventh on the still rings (three-score average, 57.700) and 10th on both the parallel bars (56.217) and high bar (55.833).

The Golden Eagles are coming off their meet at Michigan last weekend, where it went up against the Wolverines and Ohio State. To start the year, Brockport had been without its top all-around competitor in senior Brian Gildemeyer.

Earlier this season, Brockport met Temple when the two squads competed up at the West Point Open. The Golden Eagles saw an improvement of over 40 points from its season-opening meet at Navy. Senior Paul Ferraro led the team on the Still Rings with a score of 12.100.
