3.25.12 | Men's Gymnastics, EIGL-ECAC Championships
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Coming into Saturday's meet against No. 2 Penn State, the No. 10 Temple men's gymnastics team owned just one loss all season –that being the Nitany Lions back on Jan. 27 at the West Point Open. On Saturday, which was the final regular season meet for Temple, the Owls fell to Penn State, 360.600 – 342.200 at Rec Hall.
Senior Matt Martin had the Owls best performance on the night, placing second on the vault with a score of 15.100. Brett Statman placed within the top five in the event, having a 14.500.
On the floor, Allan Malone earned a third placed finish with his routine that was worth a score of 15.000. Blake Collins placed fifth and second overall for Temple with his score of 14.500, while John Leonard and Statman tied for seventh overall with identical scores of 14.400.
Junior Alex Tighe was the top performer for Temple on the pommel horse, as he took a fifth place finish, earning a 14.400. Michael Bittner's score of 14.300 was worth a sixth place finish, which was just ahead of senior Chris Mooney in eighth with his 14.000 on the apparatus. Tighe later finished with Temple's second-best score on bars with a 14.100
Like he has done multiple times this season, senior Taylor Brana led the Owls on still rings. Having a score of 14.900, Brana placed fifth in the event just as he did on parallel bars where he was also Temple's top finisher, earning a tally of 14.200.
Mooney placed second for the Owls on rings with his score of 14.400, while senior Adam Al-Rokh scored a 14.300 in his only event of the night.
Temple (15-2) closes the book on regular season competition where it won all but two competitions—both losses being to Penn State. The Owls will now have two weeks off before taking part in the ECAC Championships, which they will host inside the confines of McGonigle Hall on April 6 and 7.
