Temple men's track and field earned a second place finish in a scored meet at the Maryland Invitational held on Saturday at the Kehoe Track Complex. Like many other times over the course of the running season, the Owls were led by event title winners Alex McGee
, Travis Mahoney
and Gabe Pickett
Mahoney's time of 3:49.07 not only earned him first place in the 1500 meter run, but was also fast enough to meet IC4A qualifying standards. Also meeting IC4A marks was the 4x400 squad, made up of Lionel Wilson
, Alan Harding
, Damian Myers
and McGee, as it combined for a second place time of 3:17.17.
McGee led the Owls and all runners in the 200 meter dash with his time 21.86. His teammate, junior Damian Myers
was just behind him by .01 of a second (21.87) to place second overall.
Pickett's landing distance of 14.21 meters was the best among all event participants in the triple jump, while Derek Holland
came close, placing second with his total distance of 14.21 meters.
Sophomore Will Kellar
set a new personal best time of 3:55.90 in the 15000 meter run which placed him six overall and second only to Mahoney for the team-best.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Josh McFrazier
led the Owls with a second place finish in the event with his time of 14.28.
Sophomore Phil Fanz took third place in the steeplechase with a solid finish time of 9:34.75, while senior Tim Malloy
placed third in the high jump with a distance of 1.98 meters.
Temple will now prepare for next weekend's meet when it heads to the University of Florida for Friday and Saturday's running of the Florida Relays.
