PHILADELPHIA – This coming weekend, the men's gymnastics Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships come to McGonigle Hall, as Temple University welcomes Army, Navy, Illinois-Chicago, Springfield and William & Mary for a meet  that all six squads spend all season preparing for.

The team competition takes place Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. to determine the finalists for Saturday's individual meet, which will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Host Temple (17-2) is ranked No. 10 in the nation and leads the ECAC with an average total score of 340.767, which is more than nine points over second place Illinois-Chicago.

Under the direction of 36-year head coach Fred Turoff, the Owls as a team lead all rival ECAC schools with their average score in all six events.  

Junior Alex Tighe comes into the six-squad meet leading the conference with his average score on horizontal bars (13.760). In the season-opening meet at the Navy Open, Tighe earned a score of 14.700, which still stands as the highest score on bars by an ECAC gymnast this season. Tighe also owns the team's second-best score on pommel horse with a 13.433, which is ranked fourth in the conference.

Freshman Michael Bittner, who was tabbed an ECAC Rookie of the Week leads the Owls on pommel with his average earned total of 13.911.

Junior Taylor Brana, who was the ECAC Gymnast of the Week back on March 10, is ranked second in the league with his average score on still rings (14.355). Senior Adam Al-Rokh, who leads the team with in all-around, also was named to the conference's weekly honor roll this season. Al-Rokh is second on the team and fourth in the ECAC with his average score of 14.400 on rings.

In floor exercise, the Owls have been carried by consistent routines by senior Allan Malone, sophomore John Leonard and junior Brett Statman. Malone's score (14.525) in the event is ranked second in the league, while Leonard and Statman are close behind, placing third and fourth, respectively.

On vault, senior Matt Martin owns the conference's highest score by an individual on the apparatus with a score of 15.2, which he was garnered with back on Feb. 26 in a home meet against Air Force and Brockport. With an average score of 14.150 on the vault, Martin is ranked third in the ECAC.
