PHILADELPHIA - The rally attempt was just too little and too late for Temple lacrosse in what became the final game of the Owls' season, as they dropped a 13-7 decision to #16 Massachusetts on a rainy and cold Sunday afternoon. Temple's eight seniors were honored in a ceremony prior to the game, and all have been valuable members of the program in their time with the Owls.
The Minutewomen took control early, allowing Temple to tie the game just once at 1-1 before racing out to an 8-1 lead. Jesse O'Donnell, who finished with six goals, scored four in a row at one point for UMass and then assisted on the fifth goal in that stretch.
Charlotte Swavola scored in the final minute of the first half, but the Minutewomen got one more to take a 9-2 lead into the break.
UMass scored the first three goals of the second half, and four of the first five, to lead 13-3 with 16:56 left in the game.
Jaymie Tabor scored at 11:01 to start a 4-0 run by the Owls that lasted through the end of the game. Jackie Mercer scored her second of two goals in the run, and Stephanie Markunas finished with three assists including two in that stretch. Also scoring for Temple in the contest were Karly Cohen, Missy Schweitzer and Kelsey Zenuk.
The Owls will not advance to next weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament, finishing with a 3-4 record in conference play and a 9-8 record overall. UMass improves to 16-1 and finished undefeated in the league with a 7-0 record.
