In the opening day of the 118th Penn Relays at Franklin Field, senior Travis Mahoney
had an outstanding performance as he placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in an elapsed time of 8:48.18. His time was just over 12 seconds from the school record, which he set last season. Mahoney's runner-up spot in the event put him under five seconds of Indiana's Andrew Poore, who crossed the finish line in 8:43.52.
Mahoney will take part in the Distance Medley Championship of America on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p..m. Joining him in the event will be Alan Harding
, Louis Parisi and Will Kellar
Temple's men's side will also perform in four other relay events when day two of the nation's largets track anf field meet resumes. Sophomore Josh McFrazier will run in the 110 meter hurdles, Senior Tim Malloy and Darryl McDuffe are listed to compete in the high jump, while Dylan Pensyl will go at it in the long jump and Gabe Pickett participates in the triple jump. In other field events, Brian Littlepage will represent the Owls in the discus and hammer throws.
