Temple’s Brandon McManus Named BIG EAST Specialist of the Week

PROVIDENCE  – Temple senior PK/P Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.) has earned the BIG EAST Conference Specialist of the Week honor, the BIG EAST announced on Monday.
At Penn State on Saturday, McManus nailed two field goals (33 yds., 42 yds.) to extend his school career record for field goals made to 52. His 42-yard FG in the third quarter is his longest so far this season.
McManus also punted six times for 291 yards (48.5 avg.), improving his career record punting average to 46.0 (61 punts and 2,812 yards).
McManus also kicked off four times for 211 yards (52.8 average) with three touchbacks.
McManus has made 59 consecutive extra points.
McManus is one of eight current players in the country who handle ALL kicking duties.
On the career charts, McManus is No. 2 in scoring with 291 points. He needs only 33 points to catch Bernard Pierce who holds the career record with 324 points scored.
The BIG EAST honor is the second of McManus' collegiate career and his second this season. He also earned Specialist of the Week honors on Sept. 3 following the win over Villanova.
Named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team last week, McManus also earned national recognition from the College Football Performance Awards on Sunday.  He was named Honorable Mention Specialist of the Week and Honorable Mention Punter of the Week.
Temple (1-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) has a bye week before hosting South Florida (2-2, 0-1 BIG EAST) in its annual Homecoming game on Oct. 6.  The game is also Temple's BIG EAST opener.  Kickoff time and television will be announced on Monday.
