Women's Rowing Honor Valerie Altimari at Purple Stride Philadelphia 2013

PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's rowing spent their Saturday, November 9th, off the water at the Purple Stride 5k for Pancreatic Cancer at Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park.

The Owls race, annually, in honor of Valerie Altimari as members of "Team Val Dawg". Valarie was the mother of former Temple rower and Graduate Assistant Coach, Laura Altimari. The elder Altimari lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer in 2010.

"The Purple Stride is a fun event that continues to grow bigger every year," said women's rowing head coach Rebecca Grzybowski  "The chance to support a member of the Temple Rowing family while also raising money and awareness for a great cause is something that we look forward to every fall."'

With the Owls help at the 5k walk/run, The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raised over $550,000 for pancreatic cancer research, patient services, community outreach and government affairs & advocacy.
