Tighe And Rydzefski Tabbed With ECAC Weekly Honors

PHILADELPHIA— The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their weekly men's gymnastics awards on Tuesday afternoon. On this week's honor roll, senior Alex Tighe was named the conference's co-Gymnast of the Week and freshman Jon Rydzefski was named its Rookie of the Week after helping the No. 12 Temple Owls to their first title at the West Point Open since 1995.

Tighe, who shares this week's award with Army's Jesse Glenn, is a senior with a double major in Applied Mathematics and Spanish Language and Professional Studies. Last Friday, he worked three events to help pace Temple, as they captured the team competition at the 22nd annual West Point Open.  Tighe, who is from Milwaukee, Wis. placed first on the parallel bars (14.4) and horizontal bar (14.3) and took a second place on pommel horse (14.2).  

Tighe, the ECAC champion on horizontal bar (2011) and the parallel bars (2012), was recognized as a first team  Academic All-American Scholar Athlete for 2012 by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA).  He will head to Las Vegas this week for the Winter Cup and a chance to qualify for the USA Championships in Hartford, Conn. this summer. 

A freshman from Leominster, Mass, Rydzefski captured third in the all-around competition (81.20) at the West Point Open to help the Owls capture the team title at the 22nd annual event.  In addition he placed third on parallel bars (13.8) and second on horizontal bar (13.75).
