Softball Falls 14-3 to Iowa State on Final Day of City of Clearwater Spring Invitational

Box Score

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Temple closed out play at the City of Clearwater Spring Invitational with a game against Iowa State on Sunday, March 17. The Owls (6-13) dropped a 14-3 decision to the Cyclones (12-13).

Stephanie Pasquale, Leah Lucas and Kelsey Dominik accounted for six of TU's nine hits, including a double from Pasquale, a double and a homerun from Lucas, and a two-bagger from Dominik.

Iowa State built a 6-0 lead through the top of the fourth before Temple got three back with a big bottom half of the inning. Pasquale led off with a single and Lucas stepped in and homered to bring them both home. Dominik then delivered a ground-rule double, and her pinch-runner Kate Roth scored one out later on a Cyclones error on Kayla Cook's single.

Unfortunately, that was the only scoring the Owls would do, and Iowa State exploded for seven hits and eight runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.

Jessica Mahoney (0-7) went 5.0 innings, allowing 11 hits and 11 runs, walking six and striking out one. Tori Torrescano (6-5) earned the win with 4.0 innings of work, seven hits allowed, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

Temple will be in action next on Wednesday, March 20, with a doubleheader at Iona beginning at 2:30 p.m.
