Montel Harris Signs Contract with CFL Team

PHILADELPHIA – Running back Montel Harris signed a contract with the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Wednesday.
Harris became the sixth active Owl to appear on a CFL roster, joining RB Matt Brown (Saskatchewan Roughriders), RB Tim Brown (B.C. Lions), QB Henry Burris (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), LB Dominique Harris (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), and DL Elisha Joseph (Calgary Stampeders).
A preseason All-American and a 2012 first-team All-BIG EAST honoree, Harris led the nation with 27 career 100-yard rushing games, including five with TU in 2012. He led Temple and the BIG EAST in rushing with 1,054 yards and 12 touchdowns on 196 carries on the season. Harris rushed for career highs of 351 yards and seven touchdowns (both school records and BIG EAST records) at Army. He played in the East-West Shrine Game®. Harris participated in the 2013 NFL Combine. He received his degree in communications from Boston College in 2012.
Harris tried out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month.
This spring six Temple Owls have signed contracts with pro professional teams: RB Matt Brown (Saskatchewan Roughriders), RB Montel Harris (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), DB Maurice Jones (Chicago Bears), PK/P Brandon McManus (Indianapolis Colts), OL Martin Wallace (Cleveland Browns), and DE John Youboty (Denver Broncos).
Temple opens the 2013 season at Notre Dame on August 31. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on NBC.
