28th Annual Athletics Golf Classic: Another Huge Success
7.24.13 | Owl Club
PHILADELPHIA - On June 17, 118 golfers were in attendance to support the 28th Annual Golf Classic presented by Sodexo Dining Services at White Manor Country Club. The event, hosted by the Temple Owl Club, raises money to further enhance the experience of Temple student-athletes.
After kicking off the day with lunch in the club's ballroom, generously sponsored by Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, the day progressed with a noon shotgun start on Malvern's famed course.
During the round, there were a number of on-course contests in which all golfers could participate, including a putting green contest, football punt challenge and a 3-point basketball shot, all staffed by Temple's own Matt Rhule (Head Coach, Football), Dave Duke (Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball), Dwayne Killings (Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball) and Shawn Trice (Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball).
Upon conclusion of the round, the golfers enjoyed a relaxing cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres sponsored by Front Row Marketing Services, Global Spectrum and New Era Ticketing, subsidiaries of Comcast Spectator and long-time partners of Temple Athletics.
Finally, the evening concluded with the Cherry & White Caravan that included special guests Coach Rhule, Fran Dunphy (Head Coach, Men's Basketball) and Tonya Cardoza (Head Coach, Women's Basketball). The Caravan, emceed by Dr. Aubrey Kent (Chair of Temple's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management), recapped the highlights of the 2012-2013 season, as well as provided an outlook on the upcoming season in the American Athletic Conference. The 150+ guests in attendance also had the opportunity to directly ask questions to the coaches about Temple Athletics.
The Classic and Caravan continued its long tradition of success by generating revenue exceeding $70,000. All proceeds will benefit Temple's more than 600 student-athletes via scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
