PHILADELPHIA – Aaron Watson has joined the Temple cross country and track & field staff as an assistant coach for the distance runners, working with assistant coach James Snyder
and under head track & field and cross country coach Eric Mobley. Watson comes to Temple from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for three years.
"I'm extremely excited for Aaron to be joining our staff here at Temple," said Snyder. "When interviewing candidates he immediately stood out as the perfect person for this job. His knowledge and passion will help take the distance program to the next level."
While at GVSU, Watson assisted in all aspects of coaching the cross country and middle/long distance track and field athletes on a daily basis. His teams were extremely successful, with the women's cross country squad winning the NCAA Division II Championship in both 2010 and 2012, while also capturing titles at both the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The men's cross country team at GVSU placed third at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2010 and 2011, with both of those finishes ranking as the best in school history for that program. Watson helped guide seven men to cross country All-America honors in addition to 12 women.
GVSU athletes Monica Kinney won two national titles during Watson's coaching tenure, and Rachel Patterson took three national titles in distance events. Watson assisted in all aspects of on-campus recruiting while at GVSU. He is also a USATF Level I Certified Coach.
Watson graduated from GVSU with a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2012.
