Women's Basketball Hosts Fordham on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team continues its four-game home stretch on Sunday, hosting Fordham at 2 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. Both teams are looking to rebound from losses, with the Owls holding a 3-4 overall mark and the Rams coming in at 4-4.

Temple was upended by visiting Delaware, 69-58, on Wednesday night at the Liacouras Center. The Blue Hens used a 27-9 run, spanning the end of the first half to the beginning of the second half, to put the game out of reach for the Owls. For the season, sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald leads the Owls with 14.4 points per game, while freshman Alliya Butts is averaging 12.7 with a team-best 16 steals. Rookie Tanaya Atkinson averages 11.9 points and 7.6 boards per game, while senior Tyonna Williams contributes 10.1 points per game. Sophomore Safiya Martin leads TU on the boards with 8.1 rebounds per game, while junior Erica Covile adds 7.7 boards a contest.

Fordham is coming off a 56-43 loss to Seton Hall on Friday night, falling to 4-4 on the season. Emily Tapio and Hannah Missry lead the Ram offense, averaging 13.1 and 10.0 points, respectively. Tapio is shooting a team-best 51.6% from the field, and also leads Fordham in blocks and steals. Samantha Clark averages 8.0 points per game and is tops on the team in rebounding with 7.3 boards per game. The Rams average 54.5 points per game and are holding opponents to just 52.2 points per game. Fordham shoots 37.6% from the field and 29.5% from three-point range.

Temple leads the all-time series with Fordham, 23-6, dating back to 1996. Fordham has won the last two, however, both coming in 2013, the Owls' last season in the Atlantic-10.

When the teams last met, they played a pair of games in a seven-day span in 2013. Temple and Fordham met on the final day of the A-10 regular season, and then saw each other again in the semifinals of the A-10 tournament. Fordham took both meetings, winning 58-44 in the regular season finale, and 66-55 in the A-10 Tournament.
