Lacrosse Loses First Spring Break Game at Colorado
3.4.14 | Women's Lacrosse
BOULDER, Colo. - Not able to string together more than two goals in a stretch, the Temple lacrosse team suffered a 15-6 loss at Colorado (3-2) in the Owls' first of two Spring Break games. The Buffaloes scored four goals to start the second half and begin to put the game out of reach for Temple (2-3).
Senior Kelly Syphard scored twice for Temple, while freshman Carly Demato also finished with two points by scoring a goal and adding an assist.
The Owls out-shot Colorado 32-29 in the game, but Buffs goalkeeper Soenksen made an impressive 18 saves to keep Temple's offense at bay.Â
Both of Syphard's goals were scored on free position shots, but overall it was a weakness for Temple as they converted just 3-of-13 on free position shots for the game. Nicole Tiernan and Syphard both scored in the first half, but Colorado took a 5-2 lead into halftime.
The Buffs had a 9-2 lead within the first seven minutes of the second half before back-to-back goals by Jaymie Tabor and Syphard cut the margin to five, but the Owls would get no closer than that the rest of the way. Megan Tiernan scored off a Demato assist with close to 17 minutes left, but Demato's goal near the four-minute mark would be the only Owl goal the rest of the way.
Temple will train in Colorado for the next few days before facing Denver on Saturday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
