The team will hold their second double-practice session tomorrow.
On today's practice: "The defense, I thought, had a really nice day. We have a lot of guys banged up at receiver and the secondary as well, so there are a lot of young guys getting reps, which is good. I think our kids are still committed to being really physical. This is the time where normally you start to get tired of camp and I think there are a lot of guys who have really bought in, so they're pushing through itā¦they're bringing the energy level up for everybody else."
On freshmen T James McHale and G Aaron Ruff: "They're both going to be good players. They're both really tough, competitive guys. That's really a credit to both of their high school coaches and programsā¦they're both well coached and tough. And if you have those two things, the rest will come. They're competitive; they get in there and fight."
On the safety position: "Alex [Wells] is in a battle to be quite honestā¦Boye Aromire has proven that he's probably the one right now; he's really, really physical and can run and hit. Nate L. Smith is in the mix, two young kids [Shamir] Bearfield and Jyquis Thomas. Jyquis is hurt right now, so he's out, but when they come back, they'll be in the mix. I think it's a really good group."
On wide receivers: "Well, half of them are on the bike injured. What this will end up being will be the guys who are the toughest, in terms of physically tough and can stay healthy will play firstā¦from there, as the other guys stay healthy, who can kind of get into the mix and help the young guys."
On P.J. Walker at practice: "The gamesmanship is not the part that we're working on. We're working on managing game. He almost threw a pick in the red zone today; we're working on that part of the game. It's those things that cause you to lose. Once you eliminate the things that cause you to lose, then your talent, your system, your players, take over. It's the training of P.J., his mind, his decision makingā¦I've been really pleased with P.J., I think he's making strides. He's doing everything we want to do in a controlled setting, so when we get uncontrolled game environment, he has the discipline and the gamesmanship, which I certainly know he has."
