PHILADELPHIA
- The Temple University women's cross country team competed against their city rivals Friday evening in the Big 5 Invitational on Belmont Plateau. Senior Jenna Dubrow was the top finisher for the Owls, placing 10th in a time of 14:43.7 out of 54 competitors.

"I think we really worked together as a group and everybody put out a good effort today," said Dubrow. "We've really been putting in the work and I think we are progressing well."

Freshman Catherine Pinson was the next finisher for Temple, who placed 20th in a time of 15:06.7. Senior Andrea Mathis was not far behind, in 38th place (16:04:0) while sophomore Danielle Britton (16:23.2), freshman Louise Huuki (16:27.2), and freshman Katie Hayes (16:47.0) placed 42nd, 43th, and 45th, respectively. Sophomore Megan Schneider finished 48th in 17:06.2, senior Kiersten Brown placed 49th with a time of 17:06.9, and freshman Megan Connors finished 50th for the Owls in 17:13.5.

The meet was hosted by the Owls to recognize the life of former teammate Roswell Friend, who passed away in the summer of 2011 as he was about to enter his senior season at Temple. This was the first year that the Owls invited alumni to the event, who were also joined by family, friends, and other Temple University student-athletes showing their support for the cross country teams.

"It was really cool to see everyone, see alumni, see people that I've raced against, and raced with last year," said Dubrow.

This year celebrates 50 years of cross country running at Belmont Plateau. Some of the alumni in attendance competed on the same course Temple ran on today 50 years ago.

Among the alumni was former cross country runner Bill Mahoney, from the class of 1968. "I would like to express on behalf of myself and my team members our appreciation for inviting us to this event," said Mahoney. "We're honored to be here and we appreciate that you have remembered us. We are also very encouraged to see the spirit that's being built among today's team."

The Owls compete next at the Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, September 27.
