WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Temple women's gymnastics finished fifth in the George Washington Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a team score of 187.275. George Washington won the invitational with a team score of 195.025, followed by North Carolina (194.55), Pitt (192.625), and Cornell (189.2).
The Owls started the meet on bars where they had a team score of 46.1 on the event. Going last on the event, Kerry Arone
had the highest score for Temple with a 9.65. Before Arone went on the event Briana Odom
and Victoria Reggiani
both earned a score of 9.375.
The next event for Temple was the beam, where they earned team score of 46.15. Alexis Arena
had the best score for Temple with a 9.7. Odom's routine earned her a 9.5. Lauren Capone
garnered a 9.05 on the event.
Temple scored a 47.475 on the floor event. Temple's last three performers all scored at least a 9.7. Stephanie Verry
and Lauren Capone
both earned a 9.7. Two-time ECAC floor champion Jasmine Johnson
resumed her excellence from last year on floor with a 9.75, the best score on any event for the Owls.
Temple's best event of the day was on vault. Johnson led the Owls to a team score of 47.55 with a 9.7. Verry was second best on the event for the Owls with a 9.6. Reggiani (9.55) and Mikaela Postlethwait
(9.5) finished right behind with their respective scores.
Joining Capone on all-around in the invitational was Michaela Lapent
. Capone finished with an all-around score of 37.4 while Lapent earned a score of 35.025.
The Owls return home next weekend for the first of two home meets this season. Temple will host Ursinus in McGonigle Hall next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.Results
