, Temple men's basketball won its home opener 69-50 against Delaware on Sunday evening. The Owls (2-3) led by double digits for the final 10 minutes, building up to their largest lead at the end of the game.
Enechionyia hit 6-of-8 from the field and career-high 4-of-6 from long range en route to his team-high 16 points, one off his career high. He also grabbed six boards and came up with two blocks. Senior Jaylen Bond
scored 11 points, while senior Quenton DeCosey
scored 10 and led Temple with eight rebounds.
Eight different players scored in a balanced first half for the Owls, led by Levan Shawn Alston, Jr.
, Bond and Trey Lowe
with six points apiece. Temple and Delaware traded buckets for much of the period, but the Owls never trailed after the third minute of the game.
Just past the midway point, Temple led 21-15 before Delaware came back to tie the the score at 23-23 with 5:25 to go. The Owls then held the Blue Hens without a field goal the rest of the way while closing on a 14-2 run. Alston hit two three-pointers in the final two minutes, including his second with 15 seconds left to give Temple a 37-25 lead at halftime.
Temple committed just two first-half turnovers while forcing six from Delaware, and the Owls earned a 9-0 advantage in points off turnovers for the opening period.
With an 8-2 run to start the second half, Delaware cut the margin to six, 39-33. After Temple went back up by 11, Enechionyia took the game over near the midway point of the second half. He hit three of three attempts from long range, the third of which gave Temple a 15-point, 56-41 lead with 9:49 remaining. Josh Brown
dished three of his game-high six assists down the stretch, and the Owls stayed in control of the game the rest of the way. Temple shot 40 percent for the first time this season, and held the Blue Hens to 31.7 percent shooting. The Owls also committed a season-low five turnovers and recorded a season-best 42 rebounds.
