Temple men's basketball celebrates Hooter The Owl's Birthday Saturday as the Owls host East Carolina Saturday (2:00 pm/CBS Sports Network/1210 WPHT).
Local sports team mascots will also be on hand for the game and the first 1,500 fans - ages 14 and younger - receive a Temple Owls duffle bag - sponsored by the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. Fans can also take part in a picture-taking and autograph session with the team after the game!
As for the game, Temple (18-7, 9-3 American) enters play with the longest active win streak in the conference at six games following a big 75-59 victory over Cincinnati Tuesday.
Senior point guard Will Cummings
(13.5 ppg, 4.0 apg), who had sat out with an injury the last time Temple played Cincinnati, was the leading scorer in the game the second time around with 21 points.
Junior guard Quenton DeCosey
(13.0 ppg) and senior guard Jesse Morgan
(12.7 ppg) also average double figures for head coach Fran Dunphy
's squad while junior forward Jaylen Bond
(8.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg) tops the conference in rebounding.
Junior center Devontae Watson
(2.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg), who scored nine points against Cincinnati, rounds out the Cherry and White starters.
East Carolina (11-13, 4-7 American) had lost six of seven to start conference play before winning three of its last four. The Pirates' recent wins include a 50-46 victory over Cincinnati on Feb. 1 and a 64-53 win over Memphis on Feb. 10.
Just like Temple, the Pirates' three leading scorers all average within one point of each other. Junior guard Terry Whisnant currently leads with 12.9 ppg, followed by freshman guard B.J. Tyson (12.8 ppg) and sophomore guard Caleb White (12.2 ppg).
