Women's Gymnastics Travels to Pitt for Quad Meet This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics travels across Pennsylvania to face Pitt, West Virginia and UNC in a quad meet this Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  The Owls will look to improve on their season-high team score of 192.15 in their fourth straight meet in the Keystone State.

Kerry Arone has continued to excel on bars in her first season at Temple.  Last weekend at Ursinus she earned a score of 9.725, her fifth straight time getting at least a 9.65 on the event.  Arone is tied for the ninth highest season average in the ECAC.

Jasmine Johnson posted two solid scores on her two events vault (9.625) and floor (9.6) last Sunday.  Alexis Arena has averaged a 9.632 on the balance beam, ranking second in the ECAC.  Her season-high of 9.85 is tied for the highest total in the conference as well.

Michaela Lapent performed solid routines on bars (9.4), balance beam (9.6) and floor (9.575) against Ursinus to increase her season averages on all three events.  Briana Odom garnered a 9.625 on both vault and balance beam in the meet.  Odom has now registered a 9.625 for four straight meets on vault.

Stephanie Verry's routine on floor has earned at least a 9.625 in every meet she has competed in this season.  Verry has averaged a 9.717 on the event, ranking third best in the conference.  Lauren Capone is tied for seventh best with a 9.611 average.

West Virginia enters the meet averaging a team score of 194.825.  The Mountaineers are nationally ranked on two events, No. 22 on vault with a 48.98 regional qualifying score (RQS) and No. 24 on floor with a 48.94 RQS. Dayah Haley and Melissa Idell are both tied at no. 43 on floor with a RQS of 9.84.

UNC is right behind WVU's team average with a 194.725.  The Tar Heels placed second ahead of the Owls in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Jan. 18 with a team score of 194.55.  Morgan Lane and Haley Watts earned EAGL honors after leading their squad to a win in a quad meet at NC State.  Lane averages at least a 9.725 on all four events has the highest all-around average on the team with a 39.057.  Watts has an all-around average of 38.971, and averages above at least a 9.7 on all four events.

Host school Pitt averages a team score of 192.654.  The Panthers are led by Lindsay Offutt and Tracey Pearson.  Pearson has performed on all four events except the last meet at No. 12 Penn State and has a season average of 38.321 on all-around. Offutt has performed all four events twice this season and a 9.732 on bars and 9.832 on floor.
