Blanca Fernandez Wins Women's Track Most Outstanding Performer at American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships

NEW YORK - On the final day of the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, junior Blanca Fernandez earned the Women's Track Most Outstanding Performer award for her two first-place finishes on the weekend. This is the first Most Outstanding Performer award for Temple's women's track and field team in the American Athletic Conference. 

Fernandez earned first place in both the mile with a time of 4:50.11 and 3,000m run, finishing in 9:22.77. Both marks set new meet records at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships and are also ECAC-qualifying standards. 

The 4x400m relay team made up of seniors Kiersten LaRoche and Hollis Coleman, junior Demeshia Davis and sophomore Kenyta Gaston earned an eighth-place and ECAC-qualifying finish with a time of 3:46.04. Sophomore Sydnee Jacques set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 11.97m.

Qualifying athletes for the Owls will head to the ECAC Championships next weekend, March 6-8, in Boston, Mass.
