After a long traveling weekend in New Hampshire, Temple women's gymnastics will stay close to home this weekend for a dual meet against city and conference rival, University of Pennsylvania, this Saturday at 12 p.m. The Quakers are coming off a quad meet win against West Chester, Ursinus and Cornell.
The Owls look to continue their success on the balance beam, where they have posted a combined event total greater than a 48.0 at two of their four meets this season. Last weekend, the beam team, which posted a combined total of 48.225, was led by senior Lauren Capone
, scoring a 9.725, and junior Michaela Lapent
, who posted a 9.7. Seniors Stephanie Verry
and Alexis Arena
, along with freshman Kerry Arone
, rounded out the lineup with scores of 9.675 for Verry and 9.575 for Arena and Arone.
Sophomore Victoria Reggiani
and Kerry Arone
were uneven bar standouts for the Owls. Arone posted her season-high score of a 9.65 and was followed by Reggiani's season-high of 9.675, which ranked third amongst all bar competitors. Stephanie Verry
continued to show her success on the vault and floor, posting a 9.5 on vault and 9.675 on the floor. Adding to the team's success on floor, Alexandra Forcucci
made her collegiate debut with an impressive 9.7. Forcucci looks to become a regular addition to the floor lineup, where floor workers Jasmine Johnson
, Lauren Capone
and Stephanie Verry
all have the ability to score a 9.7 or above, as well.
The Owls vault team also continued their consistency, posting an overall event total of 47.625, with four of the five counting scores being a 9.5 or above. Sophomores Briana Odom
and Victoria Reggiani
posted their season-high vault scores for this season, with Reggiani scoring a 9.6 and Odom scoring a 9.625.
This weekend, the Owls look to improve on their 189.225 team score against the Quakers, who's season average of 191.2 ranks third in the conference. Their team is led by Junior, Elyse Shenberger, who has posted scores of 9.7 or above on bars, beam and floor. Fellow junior, Morgan Venuti, has also posted impressive scores on three events, scoring a 9.6 or above on vault, bars and floor. The Quakers floor lineup has posted a combined event score of 48.0 or higher at all three of their competitions this season.
