Matthews Fires a 66 to Help Golf Move to 6th Place After Day Two of Furman Intercollegiate

Greenville, S.C. - Junior Brandon Matthews tied for the best round of the day, firing a six-under 66 Saturday to move into third place among the 114 golfers at the Furman Intercollegiate.  The Owls jumped two places and now sit in sixth place in the 18-team field, 14 shots behind the leader, Georgia State.

Matthews, who shot an even par on day one, caught fire on hole two, recording the first of his seven birdies on the day at the 6,994-yard, par-72 Furman University Golf Course.  His lone bogey, which was sandwiched between four birdies, came on the par-four 13th.

Senior Matt Teesdale, who shot a one-under 71 on Friday, turned in a three-over 75 round to tie for 27th overall.   Senior Patrick Ross carded a one-over 73 and sits tied for 45th with a four-over 148. Freshmen Evan Thornton (79-74, 153 t-73rd) and Mark Farley (78-83, 161, 107th) rounded out the Owls. 

J.T. Posten of Western Carolina leads the field with an eight-under 136 with Georgia State's J.J. Grey, who also shot a 66 Saturday, in second with a seven-under 137.
