Cefra Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

PHILADELPHIA – Temple volleyball head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam has announced the hiring of Renwick Cefra as an assistant coach for the Owls. Cefra brings a broad range of experience to Temple, with stops at NCAA DI, DII, club and prep programs.
"We are fortunate to have someone with his experience, he's worked at all levels of the game," said Ganesharatnam. "Ren is an excellent trainer, he's going to be helpful for us in the gym. He's also a great fit for our staff, professionally and personally."
Cefra most recently served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Minot State. Prior to his brief stint with the Beavers, he spent a year as the director of volleyball operations for the University of Nevada.
Cefra spent two years as a volunteer assistant for St. John's University, helping to guide the Red Storm to three All-Big East team selections in his time there. He was also a part of the team's 2012 Big East Tournament appearance.
"I would like to thank Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam for giving me this opportunity," said Cefra. "I am looking forward to helping the program continue its success on and off the court."
Before coming east, Cefra was the assistant coach for Chaminade University in Honolulu from 2008 to 2010. He also served as an assistant coach for the Asics Rainbows, helping the U-14 club to a first-place finish at the 2012 Southern California Qualifier and a third-place finish at the 2012 Junior National Championships.
A native of Honolulu, Cefra holds a degree in justice administration from the University of Hawai'i-West Oahu.
Cefra's hiring completes the Temple coaching staff. Akiko Hatakeyama has been elevated to assistant head coach for the program, while Samantha Diamond is the newly hired director of operations.
