Brandon Matthews Wins 111th Open Championship

WISSAHICKON, PA - Temple rising senior golfer Brandon Matthews extended the Owls' streak to five straight years by winning the 111th Open Championship by two strokes Wednesday at the 6,975-yard par-70 Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Matthews, who plays out of Blue Bell Country Club, shot a four-under 66 Tuesday in first round action and trailed Joshua Rackley (Gulph Mills GC) by one stroke entering the second and final round.  The Dupont, Pa. native and Temple All-American posted a one-over 71 today, besting Rackley (74) by two strokes.

It was the second time Matthews won the Open Championships.  His first victory came in 2013.

Matt Teesdale, who graduated this past May, won last year's championship. Temple alum Andrew Mason ('11) won consecutive championships to start the current Owl streak of winners.
