Temple Women's Cross Country Starts Strong at the Duquesne Duals
9.5.15 | Women's Cross Country
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Three women's cross country runners from Temple placed in the top 15 to start the season strong at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday morning. Leading the way for the Owls was freshman Maddie Bixler who took ninth place in the 5K race in a time of 19:10.4.
Overall, the Owls placed fifth among eight teams. Sophomore Katie Pinson was close behind Bixler for Temple, coming in 11th in 19:15.8. Freshman Alexis O'Shea took 15th place with a time of 19:20.3.Â
"We had a nice group towards the front and three finish in the top 15, two freshmen and a sophomore, so that's wonderful," said Snyder. "With it being the first race, there were some nerves and anxiety and we got out a little bit harder than we needed to. We need to do a better job of packing up in groups and working together early in the race. So there's room to grow for sure."
The Owls will get another chance to compete in less than week, as they get set to host the annual Big 5 Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11. Start time for the women's race is set for 6:00 p.m.
