Women's Soccer Falls Short to Lehigh In Overtime, 3-2
9.6.15 | Women's Soccer
AMBLER, Pa. – The Temple women's soccer team lost a tough battle to Lehigh, 3-2 in overtime. The Owls move to 4-2-0 on the season.
The game started off in favor of the Owls, when in fourth minute of the game sophomore Elana Falcone knocked a ball in behind the goalkeeper after it was saved off a previous shot by senior Kaylee Harner. The goal gave Falcone three on the season.
The Mountain Hawks struck next in the 32nd minute, when Clare Severe crossed the ball which allowed Amanda Marques to head the ball behind freshman goalkeeper Jordan Nash. Nash started in place of senior Shauni Kerkhoff, who suffered a leg injury in the game against Penn.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Lehigh put their second goal on the board. Sabrina Mertz was able to find Adrian Vitello, who launched the ball right back into the net in the 47th minute.
In the 56th minute, however, the Owls found their stride when a bunch of headers around the net landed the ball right at the feet of senior Kelly Farrell, who lightly kicked the ball into the goal to tie everything up 2-2.
It took Lehigh almost four minutes into overtime to find the goal, when a series of blocks led to Laura Courtney shooting the ball in the direction of Madi Morgan, who headed the ball into the net for the win.
The Owls will travel to New Hampshire on Friday, September 11 to face the Wildcats for the first time since 2002. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
