The 2015 season was a special one for the Owls. The season began with a record-setting start, winning the first seven games including a 27-10 victory over Penn State to mark the program's first win over the Nittany Lions in 74 years. The nation was on notice from that point on as Temple received votes in national rankings every week of the season and cracked the Top 25 for a record seven weeks. The Owls tied the school record for wins with 10, captured the AAC's East Division Title, and reached a Bowl Game for the fifth time in program history.

In addition to the high marks on the field, Temple Football excelled in the classroom. The team had 26 players who graduated by the time of the Bowl game and the team GPA was at an all-time high having improved for the third straight year under head coach Matt Rhule.
