11.28.16 | Football
Former Temple Owl and current Calgary Stampeders' left tackle, Derek Dennis is the Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman for the 2016 season. The award was announced on last week in Toronto at the CFL's awards gala at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Â
The Temple University product (2007-11) is the fourth Stamps player to win the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award since it debuted in 1974. Previous winners were Fred Childress in 1998, Ben Archibald in 2010 and Brett Jones in 2014.
Â
Dennis earned West Division all-star honors after playing all 18 regular-season games this season including 15 starts at left tackle, two at left guard and one at right guard. He was an integral part of a Stamps unit that allowed the fewest sacks in the CFL in 2016 with 20 (11 fewer than the second-best team in that category) and also helped tailback Jerome Messam run for a league-leading 1,198 yards.
