Demi Antipas Leads Fencing With Second-Place Finish at NCAA Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Out of 12 total Temple fencers representing the Owls at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, an impressive eight were finalists at the meet on Saturday. Senior Demi Antipas led the way for Temple, earning a runner-up finish in foil.

Senior Jessica Hall placed fourth in epee, which along with the foil squad, had three finalists. Junior Alexandra Keft finished seventh in epee, while sophomore Safa Ibrahim placed ninth.

"Overall, for us to get eight into the finals speaks volumes for the quality of our team," said Temple head coach Nikki Franke. "Especially for us have three freshmen in the finals. We're so happy for seniors Demi and Jess especially. They just did a great job and were very focused. I was extremely pleased with their performances. This meet was a culmination of a very good year that we had and showed the advantage to fencing such a strong schedule all season."

Behind Antipas in foil were junior Miranda Litzinger in 10th place and freshman Auset Muhammad in 11th. Antipas and Muhammad both had strong pool rounds, including a perfect 5-0 finish in the first pool. Litzinger went 4-1 in pool three.

The Owls had two finalists in sabre, with freshmen Blessing Olaode and Jessica Rockford placing 11th and 12th, respectively.

Senior Fatima Largaespada placed 19th in foil, and the Owls had three other top 25 finishes in sabre with senior Petra Khan in 14th, senior Gloria Aguilar in 20th and junior Victoria Suber taking 24th.

Temple will now await the selections for the NCAA Championships, which will be announced on Tuesday, March 15.
