WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –
Freshman Gary McCabe turned in the best performance for Temple Golf on the final day of competition at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, carding a three-over 73 to lead the Owls to a 16th place finish among the 24 competing teams. The three-day event wrapped up on Tuesday at the par-70, 6,755-yard Kingsmill Resort, the River Course.
Senior Brandon Matthews
, who shot a 74 for his final round, led Temple for the tournament with a 10-over 220. McCabe was next for the Owls, tying for 64th with a 226.
Redshirt freshman John Barone
was two strokes back (228) and tied for 76th while freshmen Trey Wren
(229) and Sam Soeth
(234) finished tied for 82nd and 104th, respectively.
Penn State won the team title with an 845. The Nittany Lions were followed by Tennessee (850), TCU (855), Drake (868), Maryland (877), Dayton (880), Loyola-Md. and Old Dominion (884), Radford and Seton Hall (885), Appalachian State (886), Ohio (887), Longwood, IPFW and Delaware (895), Temple (898), William & Mary (899), Binghamton and Eastern Kentucky (902), Towson (907), Youngstown State (910), Saint Joseph's (917), St. Francis-Pa. and High Point (918).
TCU's Paul Barjon shot a four-under 66 on the final day to capture medalist honors with a seven-under 203.
Temple next competes at the Furman Intercollegiate this weekend (March 25-27).
