Temple Owls on Wall Street

Last Friday, a group of nearly 60 Temple University student-athletes headed to Wall Street for a networking event, which showcased a panel of Temple alumni and other business professionals.Â
Brown Brothers Harriman hosted the Owls on the visit to Wall Street, in conjunction with Temple's Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes. Normally consumed with school work and athletic commitments, for Temple student-athletes to hear from a panel of successful business professionals was a great opportunity.
It has already been a big year for Temple and its athletic programs, with multiple teams being ranked nationally on the field and breaking academic records in the classroom. This event just adds another chapter on how to be successful as a Temple Owl.

The networking event kicked off with an introductory panel. The speakers gave a number of good tips to the athletes, including going over the do's and dont's of interviewing.

"The panel members were very educated and very experienced," said women's gymnastics sophomore Sahara Gipson. "It was interesting to get the perspective of people who are very established in their field."

The panel also discussed their workforce failures with the group of athletes and encouraged the athletes to continue to learn new information every day. The panelists stressed that continuting education is important, not only to better yourself, but to better the group of people you work with.

"Life is a marathon, not a race," said Yomi Desalu Vice Pres. of Music and Talent Programming Strategy at MTV.

This was a great event for the student athletes to be a part of, and we're excited that Temple wants to make this an annual event to grow the Owls' Nest Network.
