PHILADELPHIA – Tim Thiess and Scott Walcoff, two rising stars in athletic administration, have been promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Directors at Temple University, announced Athletic Director Dr. Patrick Kraft. Thiess is now the Senior Associate AD/Finance and Administration, while Walcoff is now the Senior Associate AD/External Operations.
"Tim and Scott are two of the hardest working and most talented athletic administrators I have been associated with in my career," said Kraft. "One of the things I love doing as a leader is reward staff for their efforts, and I am happy to be able to do that for these outstanding individuals."
Thiess began working for Temple Athletics as a business manager in 2011, and was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Finance and Administration in the summer of 2014. He serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the athletics department and is responsible for managing the $50 million athletics department budget and the athletics business office. He also serves as athletics' primary liaison with Human Resources, Office of Management and Budget, Purchasing, Controller's Office, General Accounting, University Counsel, Risk Management and Computer Services.
Prior to joining the staff five years ago, Thiess held positions in the ticket and business offices at Rutgers and Villanova for five years. He is a 2008 cum laude graduate of Temple with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management and a minor in business.
A native of Philadelphia, Walcoff has been working in Temple Athletics since 2005. He was promoted to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions in 2011, after serving six years as Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions.
In his current role, he oversees the Marketing and Promotions Department, Ticket Sales and Ticket Operations Office, Creative Services & Digital Media Department, and Spirit Squad. Walcoff 's main responsibilities include creating/facilitating all media advertisements (including television, radio, print, online, and outdoor support), developing and coordinating game-day promotions, planning season ticket campaigns, and serving as liaison to both Lincoln Financial Field and the Liacouras Center for game-day promotional initiatives.
While at Temple, Walcoff and his staff have won four National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) awards. The awards were given for the creation of "Hooter the Owl's Birthday Party" theme at a Temple Men's Basketball game, the development of Temple Men's Basketball's "Five Months of Christmas" ticket sales campaign; Temple Men's Basketball's "Last Stand" poster, and Temple Football's "Game Face" campaign/on-campus promotional efforts geared towards students.
Walcoff, a 1997 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, previously served as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Liacouras Center for four years.
