Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's tennis team will compete at the 2017 ITA Northeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle. The event is scheduled for Oct. 18-23 at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

> The Owls have four student-athletes qualified to the event -- seniors Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon, sophomore Kristina Titova, and freshman Oyku Boz.

> Action starts on Wednesday, with two rounds of qualifying singles, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
> Thursday sees both doubles and singles action, with doubles starting at 9:00 a.m.
> The round of 64 and round of 32 will be played on Friday, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
> Saturday will include the round of 16 and quarterfinals for doubles, and the round of 16 for singles, all starting at 10:00 a.m.
> Singles quarterfinals and semifinals, along with semifinals for doubles will start at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
> Finals for both singles and doubles will be on Sunday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

> "We have four girls selected this year which is more than in years past," said Temple head coach Steve Mauro. "I'm excited for the seniors with being their last regionals and think this group of girls has a good chance of doing well."
> "I'm hoping to play well and win my matches for my last regionals as a senior," said Abdurakhimova. "Our team has good chance of doing well this weekend. We have four girls competing this year instead of one to two in previous years."
