PHILADELPHIA - Coming off strong performances in two individual meets to begin the season, nationally ranked Temple fencing now begins its dual meet slate at the 2017 Traditional Multi-Meet hosted by Vassar on Sunday, Dec. 3.

> Next up will be Sacred Heart at noon, followed by Harvard at 1:30 p.m., NYU at 2:30 p.m. and host Vassar at 3:30 p.m.

About Temple
> The Owls were ranked eighth in the final CollegeFencing 360 Coaches Poll of the 2016-17 season, and sent two fencers to the NCAA Championships including current senior Safa Ibrahim who placed ninth in epee to earn honorable mention All-America honors.
> Temple began the season with nine finalists at the 38th annual Temple Open. Freshman Kari Weiner (foil) and Eva Hinds (sabre) both earned runner-up finishes.
> Weiner and sophomore Kerry Plunkett (sabre) took second-place finishes a week later at the Penn State Garret Open, the Owls' most recent competition on Nov. 4.
> Head coach Dr. Nikki Franke is in her 46th season with the program, and has an overall record of 781-230-1. Franke, the winningest all-time coach at Temple, is just 19 wins away from reaching 800 for her career.

About the Competition
> Penn, the Owls' city rival and always a powerhouse in fencing, was ranked sixth in the final poll of last season.
> Harvard was the seventh-ranked team at the end of last season.
> Temple will face NYU twice this season, seeing them again at the Philadelphia Invitational hosted by Penn on Jan. 20-21. The Owls will also face Penn twice as they host the Quakers at their own Temple Invitational on Feb. 24.

> "We're starting out our dual meet season with a tough test, facing our crosstown rival Penn," said Franke. "I think the team is really hungry to get started, and they're excited. They've been training hard and hopefully we're ready. We will definitely be tested throughout the day, as all the teams have strong fencers."

Next Up
> Temple will have over a month before its next full-team competition at the Penn State Invitational on Jan. 14.
