-- The Temple volleyball team will welcome back senior Irem Asci
for the 2018 season. The outside hitter has been granted a fifth year of eligibility on the basis of a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA.
"It's really exciting news," said Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "We're very excited for Irem to get the opportunity to finish out her career the way she wants to. Having someone with her experience back on a team that is going to be very young is invaluable. We're very happy for her and we're looking forward to having her for another year."
Asci is a two-time American Athletic Conference first team selection, earning the distinction in each of her seasons at Temple. She's racked up career totals of 1,386 career kills, 1,063 career digs, and 94 aces. Since transferring from Charlotte, she's tallied 1,003 kills and 691 digs as an Owl. Asci played in 30 sets for the Owls this season, before being sidelined due to an injury suffered in September.
The Temple volleyball team concluded the 2017 season in the round of 16 of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Owls reached the 20-win mark for the fourth-straight season under Ganesharatnam, and earned a postseason bid for the first time in 15 years.
