Football's Thacker Tabbed for AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute

PHILADELPHIA - The American Football Coaches Foundation released their selections for the annual 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute on Monday, naming Temple linebackers coach Andrew Thacker to the prestigious list. The 32-year old has been working with the Owls since last January, helping reorganize a linebacker corps that lost all three of its starters to graduation over the offseason. Despite the losses, though, all three of Thacker's primary starters (sophomore Shaun Bradley, redshirt sophomore Chapelle Russell and sophomore Sam Franklin) ranked in the top five in tackles for the team, with Bradley leading the defense behind his 81.
Every year, the AFCA invites 35 collegiate assistants or high school head coaches to their Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute, which takes place at a convention in Charlotte, N.C., on January 7, 2018. The program is "aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession." This year, Thacker was chosen from a pool of 138 applicants, all of whom submitted a resume, five references and a 1,600-word article on an offensive, defensive, special teams or position-specific topic.
The selected 35 are invited to attend the one-day institute for a wide range of seminars, featuring "a curriculum of interactive lectures focused on topics specifically tailored to emphasize leadership in the coaching profession, ethics, influential responsibilities, career progression and family balance." A major added bonus is the networking opportunities afforded these invitees, as they can connect with fellow young coaches from around the country.
