TUTF Wraps Up Day Two of Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss

OXFORD, MS – Temple women's track field completed its first competition of the outdoor season on Saturday at day two of the Joe Walker Invitational hosted at Ole Miss. The Owls ended the weekend with several individual firsts and personal best times over the two-day meet.

Representing Temple in the triple jump were seniors Simone Chapman and Sydnee Jacques. With a mark of 11.26m (36' 11.50"), Chapman landed herself in the finals. The Washington, D.C. native placed ninth overall. Jacques jumped a mark of 11.09m (36' 4.75").

Freshman Jazmyne Williams ran the 400 meter dash for the Owls. Her time of 58 seconds marked a personal record in the event, making the top-20.

After a third-place show in the 1500 meter race on Friday, Millie Howard toed the line once again for the 800 meter race. The freshman snagged another third-place finish out of 52 runners with a time of 2:13.71.

In her first 100 meter hurdles event of her college career, Ebonee Jackson took seventh overall with a personal best time of 14.52. Jackson then returned for the 400 meter hurdles, which also featured Crystal Jones and walk-on Re'Ona Pettway. Jones was the top-finisher for the Owls with her time of 1:05.80. Jackson and Pettway clocked 1:07.91 and 1:10.19, respectively.

"Ebonee performed well today," said head coach Elvis Forde. "She put forth a good effort competing in both the long hurdles and short hurdles and may have found another event she will excel at for Temple. We are looking forward to seeing her get better as the season goes on. Today we also introduced Re'Ona to the 400 meter hurdles as a way to hone in on where she fits on our roster and to help determine where she can benefit the program. Although she has some learning to do, her execution was a great show and we look forward to watching her grow."

The Owls are back in action on Friday March 31 at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William and Mary.
