Women's Rowing Sees Every Boat Medal at Kerr Cup

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing team saw every boat grab a medal, including a silver from the varsity eight and a gold from the second varsity four to highlight the 2017 Kerr Cup, hosted by Drexel University on the Schuylkill River.
Temple's varsity eight opened the day with a win in their heat, tallying a 7:17.47 to top Marist, Colgate, Army, and Robert Morris. In the finals, Temple was neck-in-neck with rival Drexel, ultimately taking second in 6:59.87, just 1.5 seconds off of Drexel's pace, while topping Fordham, Marist, Duquesne, and Lehigh.
The second varsity eight grabbed a bronze medal, opening the day with a second-place finish in their heat. Temple clocked in at 7:09.70 to take second of five, behind only Fordham. In the grand finals, Temple took third behind Fordham and Drexel, in 7:12.28, just 6.08 off of the lead.
In the varsity four boats, the Owls first boat took bronze in their race, while the second boat grabbed gold in their event. The varsity four was third to Lafayette and Drexel in the finals, tallying a time of 7:56.88. The second varsity four won their final, clocking in at 8:23.80, topping Villanova, Marist, Lehigh, and Duquesne.
In novice racing, Temple grabbed a pair of silver medals. The eight qualified for the finals by finishing second in their opening heat, and then clocked in at 7:41.98 in the finals, just 2.69 behind Colgate. The novice four finished second overall, tallying a 9:04.68 to take the silver.
The Owls are back in action next Saturday for the City Championships on the Schuylkill River.
