Volleyball Unveils 2017 Schedule

5.31.17 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team has unveiled its 2017 schedule, which has the Owls opening up on the road at the Maryland Invitational August 25 and 26. Coming off a 2016 season that saw the Owls rack up 22 wins, the Cherry and White will face another tough schedule this fall.

Temple's non-conference season features schools from the Big Ten, ACC, Big East, Patriot League, America East, and CAA. The Owls will compete in three tournaments, going on the road for the Maryland Invitational (Maryland, UMBC, Northeastern) and the Albany Invitational (Albany, St. John's, Colgate), before hosting the Sonesta Hotel Philadelphia Cherry and White Challenge September 8 and 9 (Boston College, Miami).

"We're very excited about this new schedule," said head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "We feel like we can build on the momentum from the last few years. This is a more competitive schedule than we had last year and it will hopefully put us in a good position once conference play starts."

Following the non-conference schedule, Temple begins play in the American Athletic Conference on September 22, hosting newcomer to the league, Wichita State. The Shockers will appear in The American for the first time this season, and were a perennial powerhouse in the Missouri Valley Conference.

"I'm very excited about the addition of Wichita State," noted Ganesharatnam. "They are an excellent volleyball program and from an RPI standpoint it will benefit us greatly. We're very excited about competing against such a high caliber team twice this season."

The Owls' home conference opponents also include Memphis, East Carolina, Cincinnati, Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Tulane, UCF, USF, and UConn. On the road, Temple will play at Tulane, Houston, USF, UCF, Memphis, Wichita State, SMU, Tulsa, and UConn.

Temple finished 22-8 overall last year, with a 15-5 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Owls return 2016 All-Conference selections in seniors Izzy Rapacz and Irem Asci, and 2015 All-Conference selection, Dara Peric.
