Three Temple Teams Earn American Academic Excellence Awards

PHILADELPHIA – Men's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Men's Tennis compiled the highest collective grade point average for their sport in the American Athletic Conference and were recognized today with the league's 2016-17 Academic Excellence Award.
The selections are made by the conference's Academic Affairs Committee. The winners were chosen based on the 2016-17 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
It marks the second straight year that Temple earned the award for men's basketball and the second time in the past four years that the Owls men's tennis team has been so honored.
This is also the first time that three Temple teams have earned the conference's highest team academic honor. Two Owl teams were represented in the prior three years of the league.
