UConn Tops Men's Soccer in Conference Opener

PHILADELPHIA – After a high energy battle, Temple men's soccer fell to UConn 2-0 in its first match of conference play. Despite great efforts by freshman Alan Soto Camacho sophomores Thibault Candia and Nick Sarver, Temple offense could not get a goal past the Huskies.
Keys to the Match
>Both teams managed a combined 10 fouls in the first 23 minutes of the match. Yellow cards were issued to both Blaise N'Gauge and sophomore Albert Moreno.
>The Huskies opened scoring with a goal from Abdou Mbacke Thiam (his fifth of the season) in the 25th minute. After an initial blocked shot, Thiam found an open space behind redshirt-senior Alex Cagle to earn UConn's first goal of the night.
>In the 50th minute, Soto Camacho took a chance for the Owls in efforts to get on the board. Despite getting the ball into the net, an offsides call nulled the goal.
>In the 79th minutes, UConn's Niko Petridis scored the squad's second goal of the match, his first goal of the season, with help from Alex Kao and Austin DaSilva.
>Temple made four more strong attempts at the end of the game, but could not score.
