–Temple men's soccer will get back on the road this weekend to face St. John's (1-2-1) on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Queens, N.Y. The match will be the first of two road contests before the Owls are back at home on Sept. 19.
Scouting the Owls
>Temple is looking for its second win of the season, with a 1-2-1 record. Its first and only win of 2017 was a 1-0 victory at Villanova on Aug. 29.
>The Owls' last match resulted in a 1-0 loss to Rider on Sept. 3 at home.
>Seniors Mark Grasela
and Joonas Jokinen
remain Temple's lone goal scorers so far in 2017. Grasela was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week and listed on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his game-winning goal at Villanova. Jokinen is Temple's leading returning goal scorer, logging three goals, six assists, and 12 points as a junior.
Scouting St. John's
>St. John's is 1-2-1 in 2017 after downing Drexel in its season opener 3-0, falling to both Loyola and Fordham 1-0, and tying Hofstra on Tuesday at home.
>St. John's welcomes back nine starters from last year's team, including 2016 First Team All-BIG EAST selection and 2017 unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree Harry Cooksley.
>Last season, Cooksley led the team and tallied the highest point total by a St. John's player since 2011 with five goals and six assists. With 4.47 shots per game, he finished fourth in the nation in that category.
>The Red Strom also returns Alistair Johnston who was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman team in 2016 after logging four goals – two against nationally ranked Syracuse and Butler.
> Cooksley and sophomores Matt Forster and Johnston are the Red Storms' key goal scorers this season. Each contributed to the St. John's win at Drexel on Aug. 25.
>2017 will be the Owls first match-up with the Red Storm in history.
