Men's Tennis Heads to ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

PHILADELPHIA— Temple men's tennis will head to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in their last tournament of the fall season, the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships. The event will run from Thursday Oct. 18 through Monday, Oct. 22.
The Owls
> Temple is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 13th year at the helm of the men's program.
> The team returns seven players from last year, including five upperclassmen. The team is heavy in experience this year, as it features no freshmen and the lone newcomer, Paolo Cucalon is a junior transfer.
> Temple will be represented by Alberto Caceres Casas, Cucalon, Uladzimir Dorash and Mark Wallner at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships. The Owls will be competing in singles and doubles in the tournament.
> Last time on the court, the men's team competed at the Temple Invite. They had a impressive showing at their home event, winning six flight titles. The pairs of Casas/Wallner and Cucalon/Dorash took home titles in the cherry and white doubles flights, respectively. Eric Biscoveanu, as well as Casas, Wallner and Cucalon, won singles crowns in their respective flights. Casas, Wallner and Cucalon went undefeated in singles and doubles throughout the course of the tournament.
From Coach Mauro
> "We're really excited about the upcoming ITA Regional tournament at Virginia Tech," said head coach Steve Mauro. "The level is going to be quite high. We have three guys in the main draw right now, and one in the qualifying rounds. I believe the guys had a great fall season and I foresee them doing well at this tournament, even with stiff competition. The guys have been playing well in both singles and doubles, so we look forward to the upcoming event."
