Tulane Block Halts Volleyball's Winning Ways

PHILADELPHIA -- Visiting Tulane used a stout block to halt the Temple volleyball team's offense on Sunday, upending the Owls, 3-0, with set scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-22. The Green Wave improved to 17-7 overall (5-4 American), while Temple dipped to 5-16, 2-7 in conference play.
Keys to the Match
> Coming off its best hitting performance of the season on Friday night, the Owls' couldn't get the offense going, hitting just .154 in the match.
> Tulane racked up 11 blocks on the night and hit .333 as a team to win their fifth-straight match.
> Temple had an early lead in the first set, but Tulane closed it out and never trailed in set two.
> The Owls got a rally together in the third, but a late comeback from the Green Wave ended the match in a sweep.
Individual Highlights
> Temple was led by freshmen Miray Bolukbasi and Tyler Lindgren. Bolukbasi tallied a match-best 11 kills, while Lindgren racked up a double-double with 13 assists and a team-high 10 digs.Â
> Junior Dana Westfield and senior Carla Guennewig each recording six kills with a .300 attack, while Guennewig was the team's top blocker at three.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift tied for team high honors with 13 assists.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji picked up nine digs, while graduate student Irem Asci had five digs and four kills.
