Women's Cross Country Wraps Up Stellar 2018 Season at ECAC Championships Saturday

11.14.18 | Women's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University women's cross country squad looks to continue its momentum and wrap up an exceptional 2018 season this Saturday, Nov. 17 at the ECAC Championships. The Owls look to top their program-high third place team finish in the Championship Race during the 2017 ECAC Championships. The meet will be held in New York, N.Y. and will consist of four races: IC4A Coaches Race (8,000 meters, 10:00 a.m.), ECAC Coaches Race (5,000 meters, 10:45 a.m.), IC4A Championship Race (8,000 meters, 11:15 a.m.) and ECAC Championship Race (5,000 meters, 12:00 p.m.)

From the Coach
> "It's exciting heading to the ECAC races this weekend carrying momentum from where we finished at the region meet a week ago," said head coach James Snyder. "To finish fourth as a team and knock off some perennial foes that we never have quite measured up against was extremely exciting. Our strength at the regional was the spread from 1-5 and 1-7, and that's going to be the emphasis going into this weekend. In the championship race, we will run the same seven women who just finished fourth this past weekend at the regional championship, with the goal of winning our first ECAC cross country title. The ladies have never won it, and it would be a fantastic stepping stone for us and a nice measuring stick to show the progress that I know we have made over the last few years in our program."
> "It will be great to have the younger ladies back in the mix, with Lexi Walsh, Emma Siegfried, Keegan Simonson and Shay Strawser running the coaches' race and getting a chance to wrap up their first collegiate cross country seasons. They have been training very hard and progressing really well throughout the year, and it will be nice to see where they finish off."

Last Time Out
> The Owls are coming off of a momentous weekend for their program, earning a fourth place finish out of 30 teams at the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet. Running the 6,000-meter Blue and White Golf Course in State College, Pa., the women crushed their regional ranking of No. 8 and defeated a West Virginia squad that received votes in the latest national polls.
> Grace Moore was first to cross the finish line for Temple, placing 21st overall. The junior ran the 6,000-meter course in 21:44, earning Temple's number one spot for the second time this season. The top-25 finish earned her a spot on the All-Region squad for the first time in her career.
> Finishing just one second later alongside her teammate was Kira Von Ehren, who crossed the line 22nd overall with a time of 21:45 to earn All-Region accolades. The honors awarded to the junior pair marks the first time the Owls have ever placed two in the top 25 at the region meet.
> Sophomore Michelle Joyce also put on an impressive performance at the Mid-Atlantic Regional, finishing just six seconds later with a time of 21:51. After earning All-Conference honors from the American Athletic Conference two weeks ago, Joyce nearly missed All-Region tabs by four places after her stellar 6,000-meter run.
> Sophomore Helene Gottlieb finished next in Cherry and White, running the course in 22:09 to earn 42nd overall. Wrapping up the top five for the Owls was senior Katie Leisher, who placed 44th with a time of 22:11.
